    Description

This real photo postcard shows four country and western singers at a radio microphone. The card measures 5 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. On the back is written in ink, “Left to Right, Speedy, Slim, Winnie Mae, Jimmy Miller”. There is a horseshoe stamp with the name “Jimmy Miller” and “and his Saddle ‘Mates’”. From a quick look online, it appears that Jimmy Miller and His Saddle Mates were from Rutland, Vermont and are mentioned in an article in a January 29, 1944 issue of Billboard.
This card is in very rough condition with serious wrinkles on the front and back, both left and right. It appears to have been wadded up and then straightened out. The face of the fellow on the right who is identified on the back as Jimmy Miller is really messed up from the postcard having been so abused.
This card is from a collection of items connected with country music performers. The collection was put together by Bessie Auten from approximately 1942 to 1955 when she worked at the Radio Corral near Williamsport, Pa. Radio Corral was a series of outdoor weekend country music performances run by Jim and Jane Claar in the forties and by Dean and Bob McNett in the fifties. Many of country music legends of the time performed at Radio Corral. The Claars and then later the McNetts also produced radio programs of country music.
